According to a statement from Qualcomm on Monday, the Court has put a ban on the import as well as on the sale of almost all iPhone models in China. Apple is already in dispute as far as the scope of the ban is concerned. They say that it is only applicable to iPhones, which run on a much older operating system. Monday morning saw the share price of Apple losing 2 percent but later on came back to the positive level. On the other hand, shares of Qualcomm had a rise of 3 percent. On Friday, the stock of Apple had turned negative for this year and now it is already trading down 26 percent in this quarter.
In a statement, Apple said that the effort of Qualcomm to put a ban on their products is nothing but another desperate attempt by an organization, whose illegal practices are getting investigation upon by regulators all around the world. They further went on to say that all models of iPhone continue to be available for their customers in China. Qualcomm is putting assertions over three patents, which they had never raised before, including the one that has already proved to be invalid. Apple said that they would exercise all their legal options through the courts of law. The patents, which are in question only affect iOS 11, the operating system for iPads and iPhones that had got launched last year. iPhones that are sold nowadays run on iOS 12, which is the latest version of the software that got launched in the month of September this year.
The Fuzhou Intermediate People’s Court in China went over to grant two preliminary warnings against the four subsidiaries of Apple in China. It is related to two patents of Qualcomm, which would enable users to adjust and reformat the size as well as the appearance of photos and also to manage applications by using a touch screen while viewing and navigating applications on their phones. Qualcomm stated that they deeply value their relationships with customers, hence very rarely resort to the courts for any kind of help. They also have the belief, which they look to abide by for the protection of intellectual property rights.
