American Girl is passing a new message of openness and ambition at the beginning of the new year. The famous doll line has announced its Girl of the Year, Joss Kendrick. She is a 10-year-old girl who is a surfer as well as an ambitious cheerleader from Huntington Beach. The Mattel-owned company has introduced Joss with the assistance of Olympic surfing anticipative Caroline Marks. As per American Girl, Joss is a powerful athlete having hearing impairment from birth. The company noted that she is a passionate surfer whose story is grounded in her birthplace of California’s Huntington Beach. The girl has two elder brothers, along with a bulldog as a pet. Joss has pretty-long brown hair. Even more, the brown-eyed girl wears shorts, a hoodie, and a swimsuit. Joss also has a hearing aid.
Jamie Cygielman, the president of American Girl, noted that Joss has an inborn hearing impairment. As per the executive, she cannot hear from the left ear, but Joss can slightly hear from the right ear. The doll company has long provided products having hearing aids. This time, the new member of the American Girl family is a girl doll having a physical disability. Cygielman noted Joss is the first one whose disablement is part of her life. Besides, the launch is a part of the Mattel-owned company’s mounting efforts to expand their doll line. Recently, the company has functioned to make its dolls more diverse by launching accessories like diabetes kits and wheelchairs.
Along with the launch of the new doll, Joss Kendrick, American Girl is going to team up with the Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA). Through the effort of partnership, the company aims to raise funding and awareness. Apart from this, American Girl aims to donate $25,000 to the agency and offer to back to its annual walk. Even more, all American Girl retail stores have started accepting donations for the HLAA from 1st January 2020. The 18-inch pretty Joss is available for online and offline purchases at $98.
